Founded in 2012 by Daniel Casares (sax and vocals) and Max Cowan (keyboards and vocals), Atta Kid's mission is to create a musical bridge between the precise chaos of East Bay Funk and the contagious lilt of the sounds of New Orleans. Atta Kid is equally at home in a dive bar or a jazz club, with a repertoire ranging from their funky originals to their tributes to Lee Morgan, Joe Henderson, Maceo Parker and Stuff. Atta Kid’s players have played and/or recorded with Zigaboo Modeliste, Etta James, Derek Trucks, Narada Michael Walden, Jennifer Hudson, Nigel Hall, Aloe Blacc, Eric Krasno, Robben Ford, David Garibaldi, and an endless list of the finest in funk and soul. In 2024, Atta Kid served as the backing band for Otis McDonald’s prodcution of Aloe Blacc’s “Rock My Soul” 2-EP release.
